The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to hold its 94th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai later this month, where key leadership positions including President and Vice-President could see fresh appointments. An official notification for the meeting is expected to be released in the coming days.
According to sources, a high-level closed-door meeting will take place before the AGM, during which senior BCCI officials will finalize the list of candidates for the upcoming elections. While the Secretary, Joint Secretary, and Treasurer are likely to retain their positions, the President’s post remains undecided.
For the top role, the board has not yet reached a consensus. The next President could be a former cricketer or an experienced cricket administrator. The final decision will only be taken in the high-level discussions ahead of the AGM.
Rajeev Shukla in the Spotlight
As per insiders, Rajeev Shukla has three possible scenarios: he may continue as the Vice-President, be appointed as the IPL Chairman, or even be elevated to BCCI President. While the likelihood of him staying on as Vice-President is reportedly the strongest, sources suggest that the chances of him becoming President stand at a 60-40 ratio in his favor.
Who Will Lead the IPL?
The Indian Premier League (IPL) may also see a leadership change. Former BCCI Treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry is emerging as a frontrunner for the IPL Chairman’s role. Abhishek Dalmiya, currently a member of the IPL Governing Council from Bengal, is also being considered.
Why the Change at the Top?
The reshuffle comes after Roger Binny, who turned 70, stepped down from the post of BCCI President. As per the BCCI constitution, no individual above the age of 70 can hold an administrative role in the board. In the interim, Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has taken charge as Acting President.
The AGM, expected to be held in the last week of September, will provide clarity on the final appointments. The official notice for the meeting is likely to be issued within the next two to three days.
